An Siopa Beag is a family run business specialising in wooden toys, art materials, craft supplies, books and some musical instruments and natural clothing for you and your family.

Our range is produced with reverence for the environment and the child, encouraging meaningful and creative play. We believe the child's environment is most important for his/her development. Young children need to play and they need toys that are simple and unsophisticated in order to awaken their creative impulses. The degree of creativity children bring to their play will directly affect the degree of creativity they bring to their work and thinking later in life.

We apply the following criteria when selecting products:

Play value
We only choose toys that encourage meaningful play - creative play that aids the child in their emotional, intellectual and physical development. Toys that rely on the child's imagination - instead of giving the child set answers. Toys that encourage the child to imitate its immediate surroundings.

Quality
Our toys are finely crafted and made to last. We select products made from natural materials, and they must be safe and non-toxic. It is also important that the toys are beautiful and a pleasure to touch. All the senses need to be stimulated in a positive way.

Why wood is best
Wood is a regenerative resource. It stimulates the child's senses with its texture and variations in colour. Wood smells good and has its own temperature. Bacteria cannot reproduce on wood. When wooden toys break they can be fixed. And lastly, wood is recyclable.

Ethical concerns
Most of the products are made in Western Europe by people paid a fair wage for their skills, working in clean and safe environments. The makers of these toys are active in public life, working to encourage respect for the interests of the child and the promotion of quality toys through, among other things, active cooperation with the Registered Society for the Initiative for Toys suitable for Children, Spiel und Zukunft and support for the Alliance for Childhood.
